Beschreibung

Jasper is an opaque, fine-grained variety of quartz that captivates with its diverse colours and patterns. Red, brown, green or patterned surfaces, often with bands or spots, are typical. Deposits are found worldwide, especially in India, Madagascar and Brazil. Jasper has been valued as a gemstone for thousands of years and is suitable for necklaces, pendants, bracelets and decorative objects.

Überlieferte Bedeutung

Jasper is regarded as a stone of endurance. It is traditionally associated with groundedness and drive.

Geschichte

The name jasper comes from Ancient Greek and means "spotted stone". Even in antiquity, jasper was popular as a gemstone and amulet stone, and was revered as a protective stone in many cultures. Historically, it was often used for seals and engravings.

Pflege

Jasper can be cleaned with lukewarm water and mild soap. Ultrasonic or steam cleaning should be avoided, as fine cracks may develop. Direct sunlight and strong heat should be avoided to prevent colour changes. Contact with perfume, cosmetics and salt water should be avoided; store separately from harder stones.

Echtheit erkennen

Genuine jasper shows natural patterns and is opaque. Occasionally, stones are dyed to intensify the colour. Common imitations are dyed agate or glass; look out for uniform colouring and a lack of natural structures.
